Wellington have also won five of their last six home games against Western.

Wellington Phoenix Form

It was a hugely successful season for Wellington Phoenix last term, with the Kiwi club finishing the regular season in second spot on the ladder after winning 15 of their 27 matches.

Phoenix couldn't step up in the finals series, however, bowing out to Melbourne Victory over two legs.

Backing up last season will be a challenge and Phoenix didn't have the chance to generate much momentum in the Australia Cup, suffering a 1-0 loss to South Melbourne in the R32.

Wellington Phoenix Team News

Wellington have lost some key players for this season, with the likes of Oskar Zawada, Alex Paulsen and Bozhidar Kraev all departing.

In some good news for Phoenix fans, flying winger Marco Rojas returns to the club after debuting back in 2009.

Western United Form

It was a nightmare season for Western United in 2023/24 with John Aloisi's side ending the campaign in 11th spot on the ladder, winning just seven of their 27 games.

Aloisi can arguably count himself lucky to still be in a job and it looks like being another long season for Western unless he can turn things around drastically.

They didn't even qualify for the Australia Cup R32 in pre-season, suffering a crushing 4-1 loss to the Newcastle Jets in the preliminary round.

Western United also went down 2-1 in a pre-season friendly to George Cross - a team who play in the NPL2 in Victoria.

Western United Team News

With the likes of Daniel Penha, Lachie Wales and Josh Risdon all departing, it's looking like an uphill battle for Western to challenge for the top six.
