Head to Head

Shanghai Shenhua and Kawasaki Frontale will meet for the first time on Wednesday.

Shanghai Shenhua Form

Shanghai Shenhua returned to the top of the CSL on Friday with a dramatic comeback victory against Henan. Wu Xi's 89th-minute goal secured a vital 2-1 win to leave Leonid Slutskiy's side one point clear at the top of the division.

High-scoring home wins have become regular occurrences for the Flower of Shanghai.  Slutskiy's side won 13 of their last 15 home matches, with an average of 3.8 goals scored in those matches.

Wednesday's hosts have a less impressive record in home ACL fixtures. Shanghai's 4-1 win against Pohang Steelers in September was their first home victory in this competition in 12 attempts since 2009 (W1, D5, L6).

Shanghai Shenhua Team News

Head coach Slutskiy has a couple of injury doubts this week. Cephas Malele and Fernandinho both face late fitness tests to determine their availability.

The hosts have no other selection issues to deal with on Wednesday.

Kawasaki Frontale Form

Kawasaki make the trip to China now winless in three matches following a 1-1 draw with Gamba Osaka last Friday. Yu Kobayashi's late goal broke a two-game losing run for Toru Oniki's side.

Consistency has been a major issue for Frontale this season. The Japanese visitors lost four and won only two of their last eight matches across all competitions.

Oniki's men have a decent record in away ACL matches. Kawasaki won six and lost just one of eight continental contests since April 2022.

Kawasaki Frontale Team News

Kawasaki head coach Toru Oniki has a few injury issues on Wednesday. Jesiel, Ryota Oshima and Kota Takai are all expected to miss out for the visitors.

Yu Kobayashi could earn a recall after his goal rescued a point against Gamba Osaka.
