Macarthur FC vs Newcastle Jets Preview
Macarthur have won six in a row, including getting the new A-League season off to a winning start last. I'm backing the Bulls to win again at Campbelltown Stadium.
Macarthur are on a 6-game winning streak in all competitions
Macarthur have won 3 of their last 5 home games
Newcastle Jets have failed to score in 4 of their last 5 A-League defeats
Newcastle Jets have failed to score in their last 2 A-League away defeats
Head To Head
Macarthur defeated the Jets 4-3 in a thrilling contest on their way to the Australia Cup trophy in pre-season.
The Jets have won two of their four previous visits to Campbelltown and the last two A-League meetings have resulted in a draw.
Macarthur FC Form
There's no hotter team at the beginning of the A-League season than Macarthur, who backed up their Australia Cup triumph with a thumping win over Perth Glory last weekend.
Macarthur were on fire and took advantage of a non-existent Glory defence to bang in half-a-dozen goals in a 6-1 blitz.
Marin Jakolis and Valere Germain are already looking like one of the sharpest attacking duos in the competition, with the former bagging a brace and the latter also finding the back of the net.
The pair were largely responsible for guiding Macarthur to Australia Cup glory, with Jakolis scoring the winner against Victory in the final and also netting a crucial goal against the Jets in the R16.
Jed Drew also had a fantastic game against Perth, opening the scoring and also assisting for Jake Hollman's strike.
Macarthur FC Team News
No real need for Macarthur to change anything from last weekend, with Chris Ikonomidis and Bernando Oliveira missing the win through injury.
Germain, Jakolis and Drew will be looking to fire again in the final third after picking apart Perth.
Newcastle Jets Form
It was a largely uninspiring performance from the Jets in their A-League opener, falling 1-0 to Melbourne City at McDonald Jones Stadium.
Newcastle fans didn't have much to cheer about, with Marco Tilio opening the scoring inside the first minute and City holding on for the win and a clean sheet.
The Jets couldn't even take advantage of City going down to 10 men when James Jeggo was sent off in the 70th minute.
Brazilian import Wellissol had some nice touches in the first half, but he was gassed and barely made it to half-time, while the Jets were clearly missing an out-and-out striker, with Lachie Rose out injured.
Newcastle Jets Team News
Rob Stanton will be hoping to get more game time out of Wellissol after he got his first taste of A-League action last week, while Clayton Taylor could be in line for a start after coming off the bench last week.
Taylor was one of Newcastle's best players last season and after their lacklustre showing last week, he should be pushing for a spot on the wing.
