Colombia vs Chile Predictions

Colombia should be able to get back to winning form when they host Chile in Barranquilla.

A home win is my only choice for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier.

  • Colombia won 10 of their last 11 home matches

  • Chile lost 4 of their last 5 matches

  • Chile lost 5 of their last 6 away matches

Head to Head

Colombia and Chile have met on 20 previous occasions since 1999. Both nations won six matches, while eight games finished deadlocked.

The most recent World Cup qualifier between these nations saw Chile slip to a 3-1 defeat on their last visit to Colombia in 2022.

Colombia Form

Colombia come into Tuesday's contest keen to bounce back from a surprise 1-0 defeat in Bolivia last Thursday. Despite seeing their opponents reduced to ten men in the first half, Los Cafeteros were unable to take advantage as Miguel Terceros's second-half goal secured an unlikely win for the home side.

Néstor Lorenzo's men had enjoyed a ten-game unbeaten run in World Cup qualifiers before last Thursday's shock setback.

Nine games into the qualification campaign, Colombia remain second in the section, three points behind pacesetters Argentina.

Colombia Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Camilo Vargas, Álvaro Montero, Kevin Mier

Defenders: Davinson Sánchez, Santiago Arias, Yerry Mina, Johan Mojica, Jhon Lucumí, Cristian Borja, Juan David Cabal, Willer Ditta, Andrés Román

Midfielders: James Rodríguez (captain), Mateus Uribe, Jefferson Lerma, Juan Fernando Quintero, Jhon Arias, Jorge Carrascal, Richard Ríos, Kevin Castaño, Yáser Asprilla, Juan Portilla, Nelson Deossa

Forwards: Luis Díaz, Roger Martínez, Luis Sinisterra, Jhon Córdoba, Jhon Durán, Juan Camilo Hernández

Head coach Lorenzo could be forced into at least one alteration to his selection on Tuesday. Roger Martínez could miss out after being withdrawn just 24 minutes into the defeat in Bolivia.

Jhon Duran could come into contention having been left out of the matchday squad in La Paz.

Chile Form

Chile make the trip to the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez now winless in five matches after a painful 2-1 defeat against Brazil last week. Eduardo Vargas's early strike gave the Chileans a first-half lead before goals from Igor Jesus and Luiz Henrique secured a much-needed win for the Seleção.

Ricardo Gareca's men have endured a miserable run of results in the past year. Chile lost eight and won only three of their 15 previous internationals since September 2023.

Nine games into the World Cup qualification campaign, La Roja sits at the bottom of the section with just five points collected.

Chile Squad & Team News

Goalkeepers: Brayan Cortés, Vicente Reyes, Lawrence Vigouroux

Defenders: Paulo Díaz, Guillermo Maripán, Benjamín Kuscevic, Felipe Loyola, Thomas Galdames, Matías Zaldivia, Fabián Hormazábal, Marcelo Morales

Midfielders: Erick Pulgar, Diego Valdés, Rodrigo Echeverría, Darío Osorio, Esteban Pavez, Carlos Palacios, Williams Alarcón, Luciano Cabral, Ulises Ortegoza

Forwards: Eduardo Vargas, Víctor Dávila, Maximiliano Guerrero, Gonzalo Tapia, Lucas Cepeda

After a spirited performance in Santiago, head coach Gareca could retain faith in the same XI that fell to defeat against Brazil last week.

Alexis Sánchez and Ben Brereton Diaz are notable injury absentees for the visitors.
