Aston Villa vs Bologna Predictions

Aston Villa should prove too strong in a battle of Champions League debutants on Tuesday.

A home win is my top tip at Villa Park, while I also expect the hosts to score two goals or more.

  • Aston Villa won 4 of their last 6 home matches

  • Aston Villa won 7 of their last 9 matches

  • Aston Villa scored 2+ goals in 11 of their last 15 home matches

  • Bologna lost 3 of their last 6 away matches

  • Bologna conceded 2+ goals in 5 of their last 6 away matches

Head to Head

Aston Villa and Bologna will meet for the first time on Tuesday.

Aston Villa Form

Aston Villa turn their attention to Champions League business after an impressive 3-1 win at Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday. Ollie Watkins's fifth goal of the season helped the Villains extend their unbeaten run to nine matches.

A tough side to beat at Villa Park, Unai Emery's men won eight and lost only one of 14 previous games played in Birmingham.

Competing in the Champions League for the first time in their history, Villa sit sixth in the competition after impressive wins against Young Boys (3-0) and Bayern Munich (1-0).

Aston Villa Team News

Head coach Emery has been boosted by the return to fitness of both Boubacar Kamara and Tyrone Mings. Villa captain John McGinn also made his comeback from injury in Saturday's win against Fulham.

Ollie Watkins will spearhead the attack, with in-form Jhon Duran likely to remain a dangerous alternative from the bench.

Bologna Form

Bologna return to England winless in four matches after throwing away a two-goal lead at Genoa on Saturday. Late goals from Andrea Pinamonti rescued a point for the home side.

Vincenzo Italian's side have not won since a 2-1 road victory at Monza 30 days ago and now find themselves 13th in Serie A, nine games into the new campaign.

The Champions League debutants slipped to a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool on their last visit to the UK earlier this month.

Bologna Team News

Bologna boss Italiano is unable to call on several first-team players on Tuesday. Dan Ndoye, Michel Aebischer, Samuel Iling-Junior and Martin Erlic are expected to join long-term absentees Nicolo Cambiaghi, Oussama El Azzouzi and Lewis Ferguson on the sidelines.
